Toyotomi Stone Wall Mansion at Osaka Castle
2025 Osaka Prefecture
Osaka Castle Toyotomi Stone Wall Museum is a rare exhibition facility nationwide that has excavated and opened to the public for the first time in 400 years the stone walls from the Toyotomi period that were buried by the Tokugawa Shogunate during the Summer Siege of Osaka. Visitors can go underground and experience the remains up close.
The space, finished to look like earthen walls, creates the sensation of actually descending underground, creating a highly dramatic experience with a climax in the "moment of encounter" when the stone wall, which had been buried under a large amount of earth, suddenly appears.
Furthermore, since more than half of the visitors to Osaka Castle are foreigners, we have made the facility multilingual, and have created an intuitively understandable coordinated presentation of video, lighting, and sound, so that anyone can experience the power of the stone walls and the weight of history, regardless of language or cultural barriers.
This exhibition conveys the charm of historical remains to all five senses, contributing to the preservation and passing on of cultural assets, as well as promoting the appeal of the region internationally.
